Special Magistrate Employment Opportunity

Special Magistrates to the Value Adjustment Board—Hernando County is seeking individuals to serve as Special Magistrate to the Value Adjustment Board (VAB).  Requirements are as follows: Must not be an elected or appointed official or employee of the county, a taxing jurisdiction or the State.  Candidates for issues of exemptions, classifications, portability assessment difference transfers and homestead tax deferrals must be members of The Florida Bar with no less than five years’ experience in the area of ad valorem taxation and must have received training by the Department of Revenue (DOR), or have no less than three years of such experience and have completed DOR training.  Real estate valuation candidates must be State-certified  general real estate appraisers with no less than five years’ experience in real property valuation, or no less than three years of such experience and have completed DOR training, and be certified under Florida Statutes, Chapter 475, Part II.  Tangible Personal Property (TPP) candidates must be designated members of a nationally-recognized appraisal organization with no less than five years’ experience in TPP valuation and have received DOR training, or have no less than three years of such experience and have completed DOR training.  All Special Magistrates shall attend or receive annual DOR training.  Those substituting two years of experience must show completion of training by taking a written DOR examination prior to holding any hearings.  The compensation rate is $125 per hour (travel and/or travel expenses not compensated).  The deadline to submit your application is June 30, 2015.  The VAB reserves the right to accept or reject any or all applications received and to waive any technical informality as may be considered to be in the best interest of the VAB.
